Clinical research is an important part of our commitment to meeting all of your GI needs.
Under the direction of Research Program Director, Dr. Marcelo Kugelmas, South Denver GI is active in a variety of late phase clinical trials, helping our patients access tomorrow’s therapies today.
What are clinical trials?
Every new medication, procedure, or treatment must undergo a series of clinical trials before receiving the required Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval. Clinical trials are closely monitored studies designed to determine if a new medication or treatment is safe and effective. Clinical trials undergo evaluation by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to starting and annually thereafter. IRBs ensure every trial is well-planned, legal, ethical, and that the risks of participation are reasonable in relation to the expected benefits.
Why should I consider participating in a clinical trial?
You will learn more about your medical condition and play an active role in your health care. You will receive expert medical care and contribute to the discovery of health information that may help others in the future.
Most of our clinical trials provide study medication at no cost and pay for all research-related tests. Additionally, you may be provided a stipend as reimbursement for your time and travel.
Participating in a clinical trial is always voluntary and you can leave a study at any time for any reason without penalty.
How do I learn more?
Please call your South Denver GI provider or our Research Team directly at 303-406-4164 to learn more about our current trial offerings. If it is determined you may benefit from participating in one of our trials, we will provide you with comprehensive information about the specific trial, including its purpose, the tests and procedures involved and any possible risks or benefits.
