SOUTH DENVER GASTROENTEROLOGY, P.C.

When should I get a colonoscopy?
in Denver

Colorectal (colon) cancer is the preventable cancer. The only screening exam that detects and prevents colorectal cancer is a colonoscopy. This is considered the gold standard in colorectal cancer screening, and it has been proven to reduce the incidence of cancer by up to 89%.

Adults at average risk for colorectal cancer should begin routine preventive screening at age 45. If you are African American, have Crohn’s disease, a family history of colorectal cancer or are experiencing concerning symptoms, your doctor may recommend earlier screening.

The most common early-stage symptoms of colorectal cancer are often no symptoms at all. That’s why regular screening is so important.
